Review of the Land: Alliances (Book 3)

Another solid installment of this series. The main character is still quite childish in my opinion, despite the fact that he is NOT really playing a game, though since he is immortal in the Land, that might be why he is looking at it like a game still. He has started to realize that his actions do have consequences, and though he seems to think of himself as more of a moral type character, if you look at his actions he is more of a chaotic neutral in my opinion, and will do distasteful things if it will further his cause. This is more honorable when he does it for his village and not just for himself however, and I guess can be seen as what a leader of a large group of people must do. I still find his juvenile humor quite annoying but not so much as to make me stop the book. The author also did something completely horrible to the main character, and likely had some difficulty writing it, as I squirmed in my seat while listening to the details of his torture--and I'm a girl--I can only imagine the feelings of a man writing of THAT particular detachment. As a writer myself, I tend to get wholly immersed in the scene I'm writing; I hope for his sake he didn't dwell too long on the potential emotions the scene might have elicited. I must respect how very gamelike the book is, from the quest lines, to the random encounters when camping, and Kong's books will be instrumental to my future LitRPG writing, at least the game elements will be. I give it a 4/5 stars, again, because the main character annoys me.
