Review The Land: Founding
This book/audiobook is considered to be in the genre of LitRPG. It is actually considered to be one of the first or THE first of the genre in North America to make the genre popular, but whether this is the author's own opinion or fact is sometimes questioned by others. The author himself seems a little bit arrogant because he makes a point of putting that he is an MD on his books/audiobooks, which is his right. I mean it takes a lot of hard work both to write a book and to become a doctor. However, being a doctor has little to do with writing a book. Yes you might use some of your life experience to add to your story, but you don't need to be an MD to write a book or even write about medical experiences. All you need is adequate research. That being said, onto the review of the actual book. I very much enjoyed the premise of this book and some of the things in it really resonated with my own feelings regarding SOME of the thoughts of the main character. If you love video games, you will enjoy this book--that is if you like playing games for the story line and stat descriptions that accompany leveling. However, the main character has some annoying characteristics that really bothered me. I put this aside however, because I liked the story so much. Additionally, the amount of repetitive stat updates can get rather bothersome, though it remains true to actual video games so I kind of just skipped those parts. Overall, I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars and enjoyed it enough to get the rest of the series. Further reviews will be forthcoming for the next books. I almost wish this was an actual game to play, except for the potential evil that made the chaos seeds come to be.
***This book has foul language and sexual innuendos, if that's not your thing I would recommend against this series as the instances where this occurs increases throughout the series. It is not for young kids, though if those things were removed, kids would probably enjoy this book. Unfortunately it is not PG.
